“Capture passwords sent through your network adapter”
If you accidentally lose a password and have no way to retrieve it you're doomed, unless you have an application like SniffPass. This little spy sits between your computer and the Internet, grabbing anything similar to a password that goes through your network connection.
Unfortunately it doesn't work all the time, as it only captures the data sent via the FTP, POP3, IMAP and HTTP (basic authentication) protocols, so for example we couldn't capture our Gmail password. Anyway, it may be very useful if you need to recover the password for your FTP server, POP3 email account or similar.
SniffPass can generate nice HTML reports with the captured passwords, as well as save them in a plain text file.

Recent changes in SniffPass:
- Under Vista, automatically run as administrator
- Fixed bug: The main window lost the focus when the user switched to another application and then returned back to SniffPass

SniffPass is small freeware utility that listens to your network, capture the passwords that pass through your network adapter, and display them on the screen instantly. SniffPass can capture the passwords of the following Protocols: POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, FTP, and HTTP (basic authentication passwords). You can use this utility to recover lost Web/FTP/Email passwords.
